Japan photography log June 2010, summer - release update

Decided to release sd card by sd card then photoshop the ones i like.
total 3 sd cards.

Japan photography log June 2010, summer

First time in my heavy travel photography experience that I get blisters on my middle finger and hurts my palm.

Bought a pair of gloves for this and walked around like a mission impossible especially with ruby oakley shades and Sennheiser headphone, manfrotto tripod dangling on my daypack, wide angle lens hooked with lowepro case on my left shoulder strap, hg21 canon hooked on my right shoulder strap.

Photography highlights
1)18-200mm lens is my best friend
2)iso 1600- 2500 is my best friend
3) tokina 11-16 is my best friend when situations comes
4)getting very very used to spot metering, framing, iso adjustment on the fly
5)72mm hoya pro1D finally died with scratches(you have served me well my friend)
3)new 77mm hoya HD cpl dented on the outer ring from a fall in Tsujiki market inside sushi restaurant because space is tight and they dont allow photography so i put it underneath the table...
4)droppped my camera 2-3 times
5)long exposure shots in drizzling rain in Odaiba trying to capture statue of liberty and rainbow bridge.
6)got stared/looked at when photographing people, sth i am getting used to.
7) got many looks even when i am not photographing them, sth photographers have to get used to
8) Photographing Geisha hunting was the highlight of my experience. Never have i been hunting for sth to shoot. It was like, "there , there's one", bunch of photographer rushed to the geisha, iso pumped up to have decent shutter speed, high continuos shots to capture the perfect frame.
9)noticed when i am around tourist area a lot of photographers around too...i was not the crazy one, some even had dual system! and there are many old men photographers too!
10)Photographing in Japan, what more can I say? Architecture, transport, food, culture, life style and pretty much anything you can think of.

Going to release my photos in stages
1)highlights(includes caption, and video attached to description where applicable. no photoshop , unless necessary and will mention) *pssst trying to cater the perfectionist who doesnt believe in photoshop* its good for my photography skills as well.
2)all travel photos (everything but without photoshop)
3) Personal favorite with photoshop.

Vignetting test(click on image to go to flickr for full image and settings)

Marking meaning from left to right reading on this picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/anthonyleongkarkeong/4655805265/

I only tested 11,11.5, 12mm, generally mark 4,5,6 are not useable on the fader.
Vignetting is acceptable at 11.5 onwards, 11mm its quite obvious at the 4 corners, at 12mm it has disappeared.

fyi: lightcraft Fader ND ultra 2 uses 77mm thread with 82mm front glass.

Step up rings (made in china)

bought 72 to 77 for my 18-200mm
62-77 for my 30mm 1.4
to fit
fader ND ultra 77mm thread yet to arrive
step up ring for hoya HD 77mm maybe just for my prime 30mm, as my 18-200 has 72mm hoya pro1d on it already.

fits my pro1d thread as well.

cheap stuff no complain, material is steel, a bit cheapo feel but it does the job . no complain.

Dicapac wp-s10 wp-d20 Part 1 -Updated

Updated DSLR dicapac supports zoom lens.

Bought my Dicapac waterproof for my Nikon D90 and Canon HG21 video cam. This is my first try without putting on gear into it.

The Dicapac model for DSLR waterproof case is wp-s10 and for video cam it's wp-d20. Ordered through Ebay Singapore distributor. (For faster shipping and return postage just in case).

to test any leakage i stuffed in serviettes into both cases. The result is all the serviettes came out dry.

Gonna try it in swimming pool when its reopened on the 26th of April 2010.

First round of testing waterproof dicapac dslr and video cam. DSLR in wp-s10 with d90 liveview.

comes with neck strap.
besides the plastic zip, there are 2 layers of Velcro zip.
stuffed serviettes to test leakage
2 layers of Velcro strap

first layer of Velcro rolled
this is the wp-d20 case for video cam the finger hole is a design fault not as good as the wp-s10 where its more convenient. Then again i think the wp-s10 lacks of design to cater for zoom lens. *shrugs* you pay what you get for.
Water!
First try with the videocam waterproof case.Applied pressure
applied pressure under water with runnnig water for about 1min.
Test on DSLR case now.
again applied pressure for about 1min.
let it float while i shower.
Wiped it dry before i take out the serviettes
The boxes

Can actually use zoom lens, see the barrel has got two finger holder in it.
